INTRODUCTION

Carrot is a type of vegetable with many sources of calcium, iron and vitamin B. Its scientific name is known as
Daucus carota and it thrives in loamy soil with a pH of 6-6.2 and a temperature of 18-24

Carrot is cultivated in many places in the country including Mbeya, Morogoro (Uluguru and Mgeta areas), Iringa and Kilimanjaro.

 types of carrots
  1. Nanteshi is available in many places and is widely cultivated here in Tanzania. it becomes fast and very sweet.
  2. Chantenay . this also has a good taste, I want it to be similar to Nantes but its roots are weak compared to Nantes.

FIELD ORGANIZATION.
the field should be well prepared to remove all the weeds and the soil should be well loosened to facilitate the roots to penetrate well into the soil and water to penetrate well. and also its ridges should be raised to prevent water from stagnating on the ridge, as stagnant water causes the roots to rot and the plant not to grow well.

Carrots are planted using seeds directly in the field (direct sown), the amount of seeds used to plant (seed rate) is 3.5-4 kg per ha. and often it is not allowed to move the seedlings (no transplanting) because its roots are weak which will not withstand growing after being moved. after the fourth week from being planted, the seedlings that have accumulated are pruned to give them a chance to make the seedlings healthy (thinning). Carrot seeds are very small and should be planted at a height of (1.9-2.5) cm.

IRRIGATION
Make sure the soil has enough moisture, especially in the early days. Carrots that have been dehydrated for a long time produce small roots. Also, if the dry soil gets a lot of water suddenly, it causes the carrots to crack. So water the field regularly to make sure the soil has enough moisture at all times, if the weather is hot.

  1. the plant should be watered daily in the morning and evening to give the plant enough water so that it can grow well.
  2. weeding to prevent competition between the plant and weeds to give the plant good health
  3. reduce piles of seedlings to provide healthy plants
  4. apply fertilizer to grow the plant

REDUCTION OF SEEDS

Carrot plants need to be cut twice.
The first time it is cut with three to four leaves or two weeks after planting and left in a space of five to seven centimeters. The second time it is cut when it is 10 to 13 cm long, and left in a space of 10 to 15 cm. The cut carrots can be used for food.

DISEASES OF CARROTS.
  1. bacterial diseases. which causes wilting of plants, stunted growth and stem rot as well as carrot rot.
  2. fungal diseases. (fungal disease). like damping off, this disease attacks the seedlings a lot, makes the seedlings fail to grow well and often leads to the death of the seedling.

HOW TO PREVENT DISEASE IN THE FIELD .
use clean seeds when planting, prevent weeds in the field, prevent all insects, and make sure the field is clean, (field sanitation) to prevent plant diseases and make the plant grow well.
THE HARVEST.
carrots are harvested after three months and are harvested by pulling (uprooting) after three months can also be harvested 20 days before harvesting. carrots produce 30-50 tons per ha.

Carrots are a very important crop that is used as a vegetable.
are sold in bundles or individually which start at 200 Tanzanian shillings. Its market is widely available in almost all regions of Tanzania due to the nutritional benefits of carrots.
